After travelling and falling in love with Italy and Italian food in particular, Phil Bennett returned to New Zealand, hung up his baker’s apron, put on a grembiule (an Italian apron) – and began to make pasta.
That was fifteen years ago in a very different New Zealand, where quality fresh pastawas not so easy to find!
In the beginning Pasta Vera's clients were mostly local Christchurch restaurants and the business at that stage can be best described as a labour of love, pasta was hand-folded, packed and delivered by Phil. This meant that long days and sometimes nights were the norm.
Starting a new business is always a risk, but even though the risk was alleviated by the watchful eye of Phil's wife and business partner Linda, a financial consultant, it was still a leap of faith... but a leap in the right direction. Pasta Vera now have 15 fantastic staff operating from our Sockburn base delivering great products to restaurants nation-wide via a network of Distributors.
Over the years our product range has grown from simple fettuccine and ravioli to include pesto and sauces, re-heat and serve meals, cannelloni, gnocchi, and our much loved Baked Lasagne.
Pasta Vera is now the market leader for quality products in food service sectors. We aim to give busy chefs and home cooks quick, easy and delicious meal solutions.
